New Military Fertility Preservation Program Offers Up to $10,000 for Egg Freezing
Military life doesn't make family planning easy. Deployments, relocations, and extended time away from a partner can make it difficult to know when the "right" time to start a family will be.
A new Department of Defense program is giving some active-duty service members more flexibility.
Beginning September 14, 2026, eligible service members can receive up to $10,000 per year toward egg preservation or $500 per year toward sperm preservation.
Who Is Eligible?
The three-year program is available to certain active-duty service members whose military orders may affect their family-building timeline.
Eligibility includes certain orders involving hazardous duty as well as military orders that will geographically separate a service member from their spouse or partner for at least 180 days.
If you qualify, you may be able to receive fertility preservation care through a participating military hospital or a civilian fertility clinic.
What Does the Program Cover?
For egg freezing, the cost isn't limited to the retrieval itself. There are medications, monitoring appointments, testing, laboratory services, and storage to consider.
Many of these expenses may be eligible for reimbursement, including:

Egg or sperm retrieval

Cryopreservation and storage

Certain shipping expenses
It's important to know that this is a reimbursement program, meaning service members generally pay for care first and submit documentation afterward.
Does It Cover IVF?
Not exactly.
The program covers fertility preservation, rather than comprehensive IVF treatment. For example, it can help cover the cost of freezing eggs now, but the future IVF treatment needed to use those eggs isn't covered by this program.
It's also separate from TRICARE and doesn't represent a new TRICARE IVF benefit.
